Feb 15th Parent Scheduling Information Night

RE: Parent Information Night and Schedule Timeline

Hello, Parents/Guardians of our Current 8th-11th Graders,

With the start of the second semester, we have begun our preparations for the 2024-25 school year. Our teaching staff and counselors are in the process of finalizing our course offerings and student recommendations. This lengthy and comprehensive process helps us design the appropriate curricular pathways for our students, assign staff to fill the correct number of sections, coordinate schedules across the different buildings in the district, and align with our CVCC and CCP partnerships. The recommendations that we make are made with careful consideration. Once our students register their course requests, we do our best to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of our schedule and staffing. We want our parents to understand the process and the commitment you and your student must make if a recommendation is overridden.

To improve our overall transparency and encourage informed reflection before making important scheduling decisions, I am sharing the following timeline of events and inviting you to a Parent Information Night on February 15th at 7:00 pm in the RHS Auditorium.

Schedule Timeline:

January 20th through February 7th - Staff discusses the process and purposeful intent of student course recommendations. Staff informs the counseling department and principals of their recommendations.

February 13th and 14th - Counselors will visit students in their classrooms to give them a copy of their course recommendations, answer questions, and explain the schedule request input process.

February 15th - 7:00 - 8:30 pm Parent Scheduling Information Presentation in the RHS Auditorium. Presentation materials will be made available digitally after the event. RMS has its Parent-Teacher conference earlier in the evening. 8th-grade parents, please try to schedule time slots for conferences during the earlier sessions. If you miss any part of the presentation, please feel free to ask a RHS staff member to review it with you.

February 29th - 4:00 - 7:30 RHS Parent-Teacher Conference Night

March 6th - Schedule Input Day (RHS during a special midday period and RMS during ELA classes)

March 13th - April 29th - Master Schedule Creation

May (TBD) - Students and families will be informed about their assigned courses. Specific periods in which classes will be are not finalized until August.

May-August 15th - Schedule change requests may be made. Schedules will go live in ProgressBook in mid-August.

August 16th - Schedules remain locked, barring any significant concerns.

August (TBD) - FroshFest - Freshmen and new-to-RHS students orientation. Students will receive their schedules and locker assignments.

August 22nd - First Day of School!!!

Both the middle school and high school want our students to be appropriately challenged, placed in courses that fit their current and post-secondary goals, and added to the holistic development of our future alumni. We believe in designing courses and pathways that allow students and families to find the correct balance between academic growth and social-emotional development. This process takes months to hone and drives staffing, class sizes, and course offerings. We would rather emphasize choosing the correct path than adjusting schedules once the year begins. Please contact your teachers, counselors, and principals with any questions.

I look forward to seeing you on February 15th.

Andy Peltz, Principal of Revere High School
