August 1st RHS Family Message

 August 1, 2023

Happy August, Revere High School!!!

I am so excited for the 2023-24 school year. We have so many amazing opportunities planned for our students and families. On June 28th, I emailed a list of important dates and general information regarding events that kick off the school year. If you are new to us or have misplaced the email, you can always find my parent/family communication archived at https://minutemenprincipal.blogspot.com/

As families are starting to prepare for the first day of school, buying supplies, and shopping for clothes, I want to share with you a few things.

  1. Drawstring bags are allowed in class, but backpacks are not - Revere High School is growing in numbers, and space is at a premium. Since many of our classes will be near capacity, there is not enough space for students to bring large, bulky bags to each class. Students may use a drawstring bag to help keep items organized, but they will be encouraged to keep most of their supplies in their lockers. We give 5 minutes of transition time between classes which is plenty to stop at their locker. Students may bring their own drawstring bag, but if they forget one or it breaks, we will have bags available for $2.00 in the office. If the student does not have $2.00, the cost will be added to their fees.

  2. Parking Pass Pick-Up - Since our enrollment is up, parking spots are at a premium. Only students with a valid driver's license may purchase a parking pass. New this year, students will not be assigned a specific parking spot. Instead, there will be specific zones that are for students to use. The earlier you arrive at school, the closer you can park. Tardiness will not be excused if you struggle to arrive on time due to having to park further away from the building. Students who completed the online parking pass registration may begin to pick up their passes on August 16th and 17th in the main office.

  3. Dress Code - We understand that styles change yearly, but a certain amount of decorum is expected at school. It is an uncomfortable conversation for all involved, so we ask parents/families for support. Compliance with the dress code is expected, and non-compliance may be considered insubordination.  Any form of dress that is considered contrary to good hygiene is prohibited. School appropriate is defined as: 1) No drugs, alcohol, or weapons references 2) No profane or hate speech 3) No revealing clothing 4) No hats or non-religious head coverings unless approved by the administration. The final determination of appropriate school attire rests with the school administration.

  4. Student Code of Conduct - All students and families should familiarize themselves with our Student Code of Conduct. Please go to the district website, select the High School, click the Families tab, and go to the Student Handbook.

  5. Class Change Policy - Approximately ten days before school begins, student schedules will be viewable through ProgressBook. You will be notified by email of their availability. Before the start of school, counselors will do their best to honor requests, but no change is guaranteed. Since all students have registered for course selections with parent/guardian approval, any change after the start of the school year will only occur due to extenuating circumstances. The administration will review requests for changes and must include a conference with the teacher and parent/guardian.

  6. Cell Phones - Most classes will have a “no cell phone” policy. We encourage all students to leave their cell phones in their lockers and check them during class changes and lunch. Many classrooms will also have phone caddies to store the phones if they are not left in the locker. Teachers may choose if and when phones are allowed in a class. Additionally, we remind all students that no photos/videos can be taken of individuals without their approval, and areas like restrooms and locker rooms are off-limits for any photographs or video recordings.

  7. School Photo Reminder - All students will have their school photo taken on the first day of school. Seniors must also sign up for a special senior photo time slot on September 11th - 14th. Our school requests that every Class of 2024 Senior make an appointment with Prestige to have their portraits taken at school. Appointments from 2:00 - 2:30 pm each day are reserved for Fall Athletes; however, options are available as late as 6:00 pm throughout the event. To schedule your senior portrait session, visit prestigeportraits.com. For assistance scheduling, contact 800-736-4753 or use the online chat feature at https://my.lifetouch.com.

  8. FroshFest Reminder - Save the date! Wednesday, August 16th, 9:00 am. A more detailed email will be sent out to families of freshmen soon. All clubs and organizations that want to host an activities table, please check your email next week for details.

I look forward to a great start to the school year and cannot wait to see you soon. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
