ACT & PLC Info - Class of 2025 (Juniors)

 February 26, 2024

Dear RHS 11th Grade Families,

Happy Monday!  We are two weeks away from the 2024 administration of the ACT on March 12th to current RHS juniors (Class of 2025)!  It is expected that all students will take the test. Please notify Mr. Doug Faris (dfaris@revereschools.org) if your student will be absent or not taking the free test ASAP.  This is always a very exciting time, and we invite you to use this as an opportunity to continue conversing with your junior about potential next steps after high school.

This letter also aims to inform you of what will occur at the mandatory Class of 2025 meeting on Wednesday, February 28th, during the 1-hour delayed start and what information your teenager should bring home that afternoon.  If your student attends CVCC in the morning, they will meet with me during 6th period on Wednesday, 02/28, and are expected to attend CVCC as normal.  ACT requires us to have our students complete and/or verify “non-test” information online before the actual test date.  This information is mainly demographic (name, address, date of birth, etc.).  All students taking the ACT will be encouraged to create a “MyACT” account online to complete the more personal information such as college & career plans, high school courses taken & grades received, and any colleges & universities your student wants their scores sent to for this test date administration.  If a student already has taken the ACT and has a “MyACT” account, they simply have to update the account with the unique student code provided by the school on the personalized information sheet.

For us to support your student and you, each RHS junior will receive and should bring home four items on February 28th:

  1. Their 03/12 testing room location & seat number (blue paper)

  2. Their most recent transcript (beige paper)

  3. Their personalized “Non-Test Instructions for Student” ACT document (white paper)

    1. Use this to help with step-by-step instructions on creating a MyACT account.  A copy of the ACT calculator policy will be on the back of this paper.

  4. A “Taking the ACT Test” packet provided by ACT.  This notice will help explain the information ACT collects on the MyACT site and other important policy information.  Please read over this carefully.

You should note the information on the MyACT account must be completed no later than two days after the test, but your junior will be strongly encouraged to complete this ahead of time.

A few reminders for parents/guardians about test day - Tuesday, March 12th

  • For all non-ACT test takers, we will have a “normal school day” and all classes will run at their typical times.

  • Report time for all students to their testing rooms is 7:30 am.

  • Students should have the following:

    • Several pencils/pens. Paper will be provided. All answers are entered digitally.

    • Their student ID or driver's license

    • An approved calculator

    • Their school-issued charged iPad. There will be limited accessibility to outlets.

    • The test will take about 3 hours and 45 minutes to complete.  The time estimates will vary if a student received accommodations from the ACT for the test.

    • Please note that your junior will not have access to their phones during this time.  If you have an absolute emergency, please contact the main office at 330-523-3202 (Mrs. Baird) or 330-523-3206 (Mrs. Zendlo).  If you have to remove your student from school before the test is completed, unfortunately, we cannot count their test.  However, we will help you sign up for another testing opportunity at your expense if that is something you want us to do.

  • Students should remain in school after the test and finish their day at RHS. CVCC students will be excused from their morning classes. We will share our attendance list with CVCC so they know who stayed to take the ACT.

  • Their scores on the ACT will typically be posted to their MyACT account within three to four weeks after the company has received the test.

We will remind Juniors to simply do their best on this test.  It is a free shot at the ACT, and many students can and do take the ACT multiple times in an attempt to reach their desired score.  Registration information for national test dates can be found at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/products-and-services/the-act/registration.html and on your student’s MyACT account.

Again, we look forward to this day and this opportunity for all the 11th-grade students at Revere High School.  Please call or email me personally with any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Doug Faris
