Prom, Photo Policy, and Final Exams

 Good morning and happy May!

RE: Prom, Photo/Video Policy, Final Exam Info

For over 90% of our soon-to-be graduates of 2023, this is the last week of classes before they start their internships. Like so many in May, this week is filled with awards nights, senior recognitions, concerts, exams, and the regular hustle and bustle of spring activities. What makes this week even more special is that Prom falls at the end of it.

Prom -

We will host an interactive assembly on Friday morning (May 12th, 8:00-9:30) to bring awareness and intervention on Teen Safety. Officer Dressler has worked with the Summit County Sheriff’s Department to bring in THINKFAST Interactive to discuss safe driving and substance use with our Juniors and Seniors. We want our teens to have the critical information they need to make safe and wise decisions for themselves on Prom weekend and for the rest of their lives.

Saturday is Promenade, Prom, and After Prom. We all want this to be a memorable weekend for kids. Remember, while they may be 18, they are not 21. Please encourage them to enjoy the weekend in a safe and age-appropriate way.

Photo Policy -

There will be a lot of opportunities for pictures this weekend, but please respect each other and remember that photos should only be taken with consent and in locations that are public. Our board policy, 6.51, states that no video, recording, or photo can be taken without permission. In addition, in areas that are considered private (i.e., restrooms and locker rooms), videos, recordings, or photos can never be taken, even with permission. This extends to all school events and activities on and off campus. Photos should be a chance to celebrate and remember positive events. Make sure the memories that you want to share are positive for all.

Final Exams -

For our non-seniors, classes are proceeding as normal for three more weeks. Final Exams and Projects make up 20% of your semester grade. Semester grades impact a student’s cumulative GPA. Our final exams are scheduled for Friday - June 2nd, Monday - June 5th, and Tuesday - June 6th. Students only need to be on campus for periods that they have exams. Attendance will be taken in classes taking exams. Please follow the absence procedures if you will not be attending during a period when we expect you to be here. Normal bus times and transportation will be available, and students that need to stay on campus even when they do not have an exam will be asked to remain in the cafeteria.

Exams should be taken on the day assigned. While it is understandable that some want to get a jump on summer vacation, test integrity and procedures need to be considered since exams have a large impact on grades/credits. We understand that circumstances may arise that would require you to miss an exam day. Please work with your teachers to find a time to make up the exam, but we will not authorize taking the exam early for most scenarios. We do have built-in time on the 5th and 6th for make-up exams, but if those times do not work, then it is likely that the student will have to return to school later in June to take the exam with Mr. Faris or me. This will result in a temporary " Incomplete " grade until the test can be scored and the report card updated. Here is the schedule for exams:

Friday, June 2

7:34 - 9:15 - Period 1 Exam

9:30 - 11:11 - Period 4 Exam

11:15 - 12:45 - Normal 5th Period and Lunches

12:50 - 2:37 - Period 7 Exam

Monday, June 5

7:34 - 9:15 - Period 2 Exam

9:30 - 11:11 - Period 5 Exam

11:15 - 2:30 - Early Release/Make-Up Testing (Limited Cafeteria offerings)

Tuesday, June 6

7:34 - 9:15 - Period 3 Exam

9:30 - 11:11 - Period 6 Exam

11:15 - 2:30 - Early Release/Make-Up Testing (Limited Cafeteria offerings)

Have a great prom weekend and a wonderful month of May,

Andy Peltz, principal
