Happy New Year and Exam Week Info

Happy New Year to Revere High School’s students and families!

One of the beautiful things about the school year is that several watershed moments allow students to put their focus on achieving reachable, short-term goals to make progress toward their long-range priorities. Winter Break is seen as the unofficial start of the year's second half, but it is more like making base camp before the final push to the mountain’s summit. At our PLC Day Class Meetings, I shared with our students that I break up their high school journey into eight semester-long segments. Each semester we have an opportunity to finalize credits, balance our ledgers, reflect on our progress toward our post-high school goals, adjust our plan, and start fresh with a new semester. Some semesters go smoothly, and some struggle, but they all end together. This finality is essential. It gives our students a chance to bank credits and positive experiences without the fear of moving backward, but it also stops the perpetuation of a negative impact from unfortunate circumstances or poor choices. Once the semester is over, we must move forward.

Winter Break gives our students a chance to rest, refocus, and take control of what they have power over at the end of the first semester. When we return to school on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, we have eight school days before we start semester exams. Remind your student to take advantage of this opportunity to complete any missing assignments, earn all the points they can, prepare for their semester exams, and gain positive momentum and self-esteem for the second half of the school year. Students will be off of school on Monday, January 16, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and on Friday, January 20, so our staff can grade exams, finalize report cards, and participate in professional development. Exams will be given in most classes between Tuesday, January 17, and Thursday, January 19. Here is the exam schedule:

PERIOD 7 EXAM (12:56 pm - 2:37 pm)

Since each student has a different order of classes, we will be adopting an open campus concept during exam week. Here are our rules and expectations:

  1. Students must report to all classes that they have an exam in during the time and period assigned. Attendance will be taken each exam period. If your student is absent from school during a period that they have an exam, the parent must call them off.

  2. Most classes will have exams, but there will be no exams for a few of our performance-based courses and study halls. If your student is enrolled in a class that will not give an exam, they do not have to be on campus, and you do not have to call them off of school.

  3. Bus transportation will remain on its regular schedule. We will provide supervision in our cafeteria for students who must remain on campus during regular school hours.

  4. Our cafeteria will have a regular lunch service on Tuesday, January 17, but we will offer limited service on the other exam days.

  5. Since there are multiple exams on Tuesday and a traditional 5th-period class, we expect students only to enter and leave the building once during the day. For Tuesday, the 5th period is not optional, and students must remain in the building for lunches.

  6. If you need clarification that your student needs to attend a specific exam period, please email that teacher directly. For all other questions, feel free to email or call me.

Have a wonderful start to 2023, and Go Minutemen!
