2022-23 RHS Parent Information Night

RE: Parent Information Night and February Updates

Hello, Parents/Guardians of our Current 8th-11th Graders,
With the start of the second semester, we have begun our preparations for the 2022-23 school year. Our teaching staff and guidance counselors finalize our course offerings and student recommendations. This lengthy and comprehensive process helps us design the appropriate curricular pathways for our students, assign staff to fill the correct number of sections, coordinate schedules across the different buildings in the district, and align with our CVCC and CCP partnerships. The recommendations that we make are made with careful consideration. Once our students register their course requests, we do our best to maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of our schedule and staffing. We want our parents to understand the process and the commitment we are asking you to take if a recommendation is over-ridden.
To improve our overall transparency and encourage informed reflection before making important scheduling decisions, I am sharing the following timeline of events and inviting you to a Parent Information Night on February 15th in the RHS Auditorium.

Schedule Timeline:

January 24th and February 11th Staff Inservice Days - Staff discusses the process and purposeful intent of student course recommendations. Staff informs the guidance department of their recommendations.

Week of February 14th - The school will send home a copy of your student’s course recommendations.

February 15th - 6:30-7:30 pm Incoming Freshmen Parent Information Presentation.

-7:30-8:30 pm Returning RHS Parent Information Presentation.

Week of February 21st - Counselors will visit students in their classrooms to answer questions and explain the schedule request input process.

March 10th - RHS Parent Conference Night

March 11th - Schedule Input Day

March 12 - April 30 - Master Schedule Creation

May (TBD) - Students and families will be informed about which courses they are assigned.

May-August 19 - Schedule change requests may be made.

August 22 - Schedules remain locked, barring any significant concerns.

Both the Middle School and High School want our students to be appropriately challenged, placed in courses that fit their current and post-secondary goals, and add to the
holistic development of our future alumni. We believe in designing courses and pathways that allow students and families to find the correct balance between academic growth and social-emotional development. This process takes months to hone and drives staffing, class sizes, and course offerings. We would rather emphasize choosing the correct path instead of correcting schedules once the year has begun. Please contact your teachers, counselors, and principals if you have any questions.

I look forward to seeing you on February 15th.

Andy Peltz, Principal of Revere High School
